I put my dog to sleep last week. How long should I wait before getting a new dog?
My wonderful dog of 10 years got sick suddenly and had to be put to sleep. My other dog is lost without her and needs a playmate. What should I do?
Answer: I'm very sorry for your loss. It's so hard to lose a dog, let alone put one down.
I think you should get another dog whenever you are ready. There isn't a right or wrong time.
Think of it this way, your dog that you lost is giving a gift of a family to a new dog. You aren't replacing her, you are honoring her by saving another dog!
Again, you have my deepest sympathy. I hope you find a new companion for your dog and your family soon.
